A decade after the Academy Award®-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth brought the climate crisis into mainstream popular culture, An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power shows just how close we are to a clean energy revolution. As the film’s educational partner, the National Wildlife Federation has teamed up with Participant Media and Paramount Pictures to provide educational resources in assisting students to understand climate change while encouraging them to find ways to bring our nation across the finish line to a viable clean energy economy.
Inspired by An Inconvenient Sequel’s message of human ingenuity and passion to overcome the perils of climate change, the National Wildlife Federation, Participant Media and Paramount Pictures are asking teachers and students from grades 6-12 to get involved by accepting the School Climate Solutions Challenge and submitting their best climate solutions ideas for their school, after-school program, team or club. Participants are encouraged to submit innovative project ideas that will reduce carbon emissions and help their school and community prepare for problems caused by climate change, as well as interact with decision-makers and take full advantage of the career opportunities a clean energy climate future holds.
Students, teachers and parents are encouraged to join the National Wildlife Federation’s learning community in a unified effort to build a greater understanding of the impacts of climate change and the science, civics, communications and economic issues and solutions that will shape the future health of our planet.
“Our goal is to help everyone, especially youth, meet the challenge of a new climate reality and ensure that all people are capable of taking an active role in shaping a more sustainable future,” said Carey Stanton, NWF Sr. Director for Education. “We believe one of the best ways to prepare for the effects of climate change and learn about new careers is to apply the science and social studies taught in the classroom to solve a local issue.”
“Jeff Skoll founded Participant Media based on the principle that every citizen can play a role in leading change. We are especially focused on inviting young people to get involved,” said Holly Gordon, Chief Impact Officer for Participant. “This program brings together youth, innovation, creativity and leadership – all vital ingredients to a sustainable future of peace and prosperity.”
Grants will be awarded to projects that are well-researched, outcome-oriented, planned, communicated, well-promoted and evaluated. Applications will be reviewed by a committee of NWF staff and top proposals will be determined by external judges.
